Rarely ever does one see the positives contributions to society from the greek community spread across the news. Greek Organizations across the country have been able to fundraise millions of dollars for their specific philanthropies. Many students accepted to the University of Denver dream of studying abroad during their junior year of college, a dream made easy by the university’s high study abroad rankings. Shockingly, there are a number of students who chose not to study abroad and face an entirely new experience during their junior fall quarter while 70 percent of their class is traveling the world.

Saying goodbye to SAE

My issue story deals with the topic of Sigma Alpha Epsilons’ suspension from the University of Denver’s campus and the many questions that students have surrounding the suspension. With this story, I hope to answer DU student’s questions to the best of my ability regarding the suspension by gathering the facts from DU administration, reliable sources, and others involved in campus life and activities. I also want to portray the impact this has on an SAE student himself and his reaction to the situation as well as reflections about his time in the Chapter. Continue reading

SAE gets suspended from DU’s campus

Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s on-campus house is empty, yet still a beautiful presence on campus.

This past quarter, the Greek life Chapter Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) was suspended from the University of Denver’s Fraternity and Sorority Life, an action that has not been seen since Phi Kappa Sigma’s closure in fall of 2012. This rare occurrence brought speculations, rumors, blame, and ultimately confusion.

 

 
Although SAE faced probation and violations in 2011 related to hazing and substance abuse allegations, the action of SAE being removed has never happened before. The issue regarding what led to the suspension and if this action was rightfully done so, is one that many DU students have been talking about. Continue reading
